Have to move back home huh? Well you’re not alone, many people are doing this with the way our economy is and well just life. This How2 will show you how to do so and keep some dignity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Storage
  • Seperate Bank Account
  • Friends
  • Safe-House
Step1
Arrange for your move independently.
Don’t expect your parents to not only take you back in, but help you move out of your apartment!
Arrange for movers if your friends are not available to lend you support
Step2
Don’t move your things into the attic or garage!
Part of keeping your dignity is arranging for storage for your things. The only things you should be taking with you are the necessitys to live. This doesn’t include anything that is going to clutter your parents house…. If you NEED to move your big Plasma screen into your old room, you need to NOT MOVE BACK HOME! Capice?!
Step3
Have a safe-house.
Realize that yes you are interrupting your parents lifestyle, you are cramping their style, so have a friends house that you can go to from time to time to escape. THIS DOESN’T MEAN YOU CREEP IN AND OUT AT ALL HOURS….remember this is THEIR house and you have to respect their rules! “But hey I’m 38! My parents shouldn’t have to tell me when I have to be home at night!” Well Junior this is their house you’re squatting in and YES THEY CAN!
Step4
Don’t be a mooch!
Set up a separate banking account and have a set amount of dollars every pay check drafted into it for bills etc.
You’ll use this account to pay your parents for bills etc. If they resist, like mine did. Write the check out to your parents and put it in a safe deposit box so that when you do move out and can show them you’re on your feet and have a savings of your own, they’ll have a nice fat amount of dough!
Step5
Brown Bag it!
Take a portion of the grocery list and weekly purchase for the household. Don’t forget the toilet paper!!!
Step6
Be a Chef!
Once a week cook dinner for your parents. Also offer to wash the dishes. Your mom will love you!
Step7
Don’t be a slob!
Keep your room clean! C’mon you’re a little too old for your mom to tell you to clean your room aren’t you!

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow these steps and you’ll not only live at home with dignity, but be ready to move out too!
  • Don't go cash crazy! You need to Save!!!
