Things You'll Need:
- Chopstick (or other tool to secure it)
- Medium-long hair
-
Step 1
First scoop hair up and hold like you were about to secure a ponytail. It doesn't have to be smooth--often the messier the sweep is, the more casual and touchable it looks.
-
Step 2
Now twist hair once in a counter clockwise direction; the tail should now be flipped up on the top of your head.
-
Step 3
For a messier bun, wrap the tail around the original twist while keeping it flat against your head. For a classic bun, coil the hair as you wrap.
-
Step 4
Your hair has to be long enough for one full rotation around the original twist. You can keep going after that, but once you have just an inch or two left for a tail, tuck it under the wrapped loop.
-
Step 5
Now insert the chopstick into the wrapped loop. Push the chopstick along your scalp, catching the tucked in tail and trapping it. Push through the original twist.
-
Step 6
On the other side of the original twist (as the tip of the stick is poking through your bun) hook a little bit of hair from the wrapped loop under the chopstick to really pin it in place. Presto! You have a secure bun with just a chopstick to hold it up!

on 7/18/2008 Personally I've never actually seen the purpose of two, one is all you need to secure it and it's a lot more streamlined. And it's just so easy!

on 7/18/2008 I love this look. Always have. But I've never seen it done with one chopstick! Will have to give it a shot. Thanks!
