How to sell your house

So you put your house on the market, and you want to sell it... Great! But sometimes, we do things all wrong and instead of helping our cause, we're hindering it. Don't make this mistake. Follow the tips below to make your house an attractive option.

1. Make sure that the outside of the house looks appealing. Mow the lawn, maybe plant some nice flowers, repaint the house. This isn't a huge investment, but could make your house a lot more attractive to potential buyers as well as add to its value.
2. Keep the walls neutral. You want the prospective buyers to truly have an idea of the potential the house has. So maybe your bright pink bathroom walls won't look so appealing.
3. Make sure you clean up after your pet. At all times. You never know when you might get a call from people wanting to see your house, and you want it to be neat and odor free. Not everyone sympathizes with pet owners.
4. Take down any flags, team memorabilia, music memorabilia. Anything that is crowding the walls and is particular to you. Just because you're a huge Red Sox fan, doesn't mean everyone else is.
5. If your house is cluttered with furniture, try and put some of it in storage before you have any viewings. It's hard for potential buyers to picture what they can do with the house and what makes it so great when it's cluttered.
6. Have any holes in the wall or is the carpet so old it could probably write a history book? Fix all that before you sell the house. This may seem like a waste of money and trivial, but a good presentation and good condition of the house could add thousands to its value. Plus, there are ways to fix your house on the cheap.
7. Try and minimize the number of pictures and knickknacks you have around the house. Not only does that clutter the house, but you want the buyer to imagine themselves in there.
