Quilts are beautiful on a bed but that's not the only way to display them.
Many of us have beautiful quilts stacked away in our linen closets and cedar chests. It's unfortunate that they never see the light of day unless we use them on our beds. I'll give you some ways to display those lovely quilts so they can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
Step2
Quilt ladders make wonderful displays. This ladder is from http://www.robinsonswoodcrafts.com/quilt-ladder.htm
Adding quilts to any room instantly gives it charm and a cozy down home feeling. Of course the usual place we see quilts are in the bedroom. But don't just put them on the bed and be done with it, you can also drape one on the back of the chair next to your bed. Quilts make great headboards to highlight your bed as well. Use a round rod or quilt rack on the wall at the head of the bed to suspend your quilt. A small quilt laid over a little round table with the top covered with glass makes a charming night stand. That large forbidding armoire standing in the corner takes on a soft comfy feel when draped with a colorful quilt over one opened door.
Step3
This rooster block from a quilt was mounted in this frame and fits right in with the kitchen decor.
The kitchen is an area we don't normally associate with quilts but they look right at home there. You can use pieces from a worn quilt to make seat cushions, place mats or pot holders for your table. A quilt top that never quite made it into a full fledged quilt can be used as a table covering or made into curtains. An old apple picking ladder leaning next to the wall makes a natural display for quilts.
Step4
This Sunbonnet Sue block can be made into a throw pillow or framed as artwork.
Quilts can be used in every room of the house from the bathroom to the library. I've seen quilt tops made into shower curtains by adding the plastic liner. Quilts also look great rolled up and tied with ribbon or raffia and placed in a basket for color. You can use pieces of a worn quilt that have some good areas left to use as pictures. just cut out the usable area and frame it. Sectioned window frames look really cute with a different quilt block displayed in each frame then hung on the wall. Others ideas include, *laying a quilt on the back of a sofa *making a dog bed out of a quilt *stacking lots of colorful quilts in your china cabinet instead of china *displaying quilts in an old chest with the lid opened *making throw pillows from a worn quilt with usable areas *display quilts by laying over a banister
Tips & Warnings
You are limited only by your imagination
Always be cautious when using antique quilts
Don't display your quilts in direct sunlight
