1
Treat the outside animals. The only way to get rid of fleas is to get them off of the pets. Use a good flea preventative such as Frontline or Revolution. These can be purchased at your vet's office or local pet store.

2
Clean your yard. You need to cut the grass and remove weeds and debris. Hose down your yard, flooding it. This is a good way to remove eggs and larvae that may be in your yard.

3
Make your yard as sunny as possible. Fleas do not like sun. One of the best ways to get rid of them is to remove their habitat. Prune your bushes and cut your trees to increase the sunniness in your yard.

4
Put cedar chips in shady areas. Since there are some areas that you can't make sunny, place cedar chips in these areas. Fleas hate the smell of ceder so it's a great way to naturally remove fleas.

5
Remember the doghouse. In order to fully get rid of those outside fleas, the doghouse should be sprayed with a flea remover.

6
Consider using beneficial nematodes. Nematodes feed on flea larvaes. They are used as sprays but will not damage trees, grass, or bushes.

7
Plant penny royal in the yard. It works to get rid of fleas because fleas do not like its scent.

8
Spray IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) spray. This is good to use in the shady areas.
