Using toothpaste to help clear up acne might sound a little strange but it may work for you. The technique hasn’t been medically verified as a sure-fire cure, but the wacky method has been known to clear up pimples for many people. The ingredients in toothpaste tend to dry your skin, which clears up the acne, if left on the skin for a period of time. This is not recommended as a long-term pimple cure. It's a quick fix. If you're out of acne cream, or find yourself out in the wilderness with a huge zit, toothpaste could be your solution.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Acne
  • Glove/facial sponge
  • Toothpaste
  1. Step 1

Wash your face. As with any acne medicine, or treatment, you will need to make sure your face is clear of any makeup or any other product before you apply the toothpaste.

  2. Step 2

Identify your problem area and the spot you want to tackle. You don’t want to put toothpaste all over your face. Locate the problem pimple(s).

  3. Step 3

Choose your toothpaste. Most any brand will work but normal, white paste runs less of a risk of irritating your skin whereas pastes containing whitening and fluoride might aggravate your skin.

  4. Step 4

Put on gloves or grab a facial sponge. Pimples are generally brought on by oily skin and dirt, so you won’t want to risk dirtying up your problem area (or your toothpaste) by applying the paste with bare hands that may not be clean.

  5. Step 5

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to your glove or sponge, depending on how big the pimple is, and gently cover the skin spot, as well as a small ring around it, with a thin layer of the paste.

  6. Step 6

Let the toothpaste dry. Leave the toothpaste solution on the pimple for several minutes or hours or overnight.

  7. Step 7

Remove the toothpaste. When you decide to clear your face of the solution, peel off the dried toothpaste or wash it off with a cloth or sponge. Be careful not to rupture the pimple.

  8. Step 8

Resume your normal routine. After you remove the toothpaste, you might have to wash off the area a little, but continue your beauty routine afterward, although you might want to wait a few minutes to let the area air out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t get crazy with the toothpaste application. Some toothpaste has been known to cause irritation to some people’s skin and, if used over a long period of time, could dry, irritate or damage your skin.
  • Don’t expect your pimple to disappear overnight. The toothpaste may dry out your skin and clear up your acne a little but, depending on the size and severity of the pimple, it might still be there after you remove the toothpaste.
