A Passover Seder is a wonderful meal that is full of ritual. The Seder requires a lot of advance preparation so that all necessary parts of the ceremony will be covered. This article will highlight the important steps you should take to prepare for your next Seder.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Haggadahs
  • Seder plate
  • Regular plates
  • Glasses (wine and regular)
  • Utensils
  • Napkins
  • Food and wine (see Steps)
  1. Step 1

Set your table with a beautiful tablecloth and your Passover dishes, utensils and glasses.

  2. Step 2

Place a Haggadah (the book that contains the Passover Seder) at every place.

  3. Step 3

Decide who will be leading the Seder and where that person will sit. Make sure the Seder leader is familiar with your family's Seder traditions and is ready, willing and able to be the leader.

  4. Step 4

Place the Seder plate on the table near the Seder leader. Make sure your Seder plate has all of the required symbolic foods, including a hard-boiled (or roasted) egg, parsley, charoset, bitter herb and a shank bone.

  5. Step 5

Put a cup of wine (Elijah's cup) and plates of matzoh on the table.

  6. Step 6

Prepare your holiday meal. Make sure to include the food items you will need for the Seder service, including horseradish, salt water and the aforementioned charoset, matzoh and hard-boiled eggs.

  7. Step 7

Enjoy the Seder after all of the hard work that you have put into preparing it for your family and guests.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep notes about what you serve each year. It will help you to remember what worked well and what was not so successful.
  • Keep all of your Passover materials, like the haggadahs and dishes, together in one place so they are easy to find each year.
  • Shop early for Passover food. Some stores carry a limited supply of necessary items.
