How to Make Favors for A Valentine Party

Favors for a Valentine’s Day party need to meet 2 requirements: They need to be sweet and they need to be red! Here is a Valentine's Day take-home favor meeting those requirements that will provide your guests with both a fun activity and a sweet treat long after your party has ended.

Things You'll Need

• Jar, quart size with lid
• ½ yard red and white polka dot fabric
• ½ yard red ribbon, ½ inch wide
• Pinking shears or scalloped edge scissors (optional)
• Red card stock
• Paper punch
• Red nail polish
• Computer printer
• Paper
• Glue
• Scissors
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 cup oatmeal
• 1 cup red and pink M&M's
• 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp. baking powder
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1 cup coconut
• Red food coloring

Instructions

1. Run the jar and its lid through the dishwasher.

2. Paint the lid (if desired) with the red nail polish. Let dry thoroughly.

3. Color the coconut by pouring it into a bowl and tossing it with a few drops of red food coloring.

4. Layer the ingredients into the jar in the following order: granulated sugar, oatmeal, half of the red and pink M&Ms, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda and the other half of the red and pink M&Ms. Then fill up the rest of the jar with the colored coconut. Screw on the lid.

5. Print up the following in a tiny font: “Here’s a tasty Valentine treat. Stir it up, bake and eat. Empty this jar into a big bowl. Add an egg and 1/2 cup of butter. Mix it up. Drop with a spoon onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until set.”

6. Cut out a red heart from the card stock, using pinking shears or scalloped scissors if desired.

7. Cut out the directions you have printed from Step 5 and glue onto the red paper heart. Punch a hole in the heart.

8. Cut a 12 inch square from the polka dot fabric. Turn the fabric so the wrong side is up. Place the jar on the fabric. Pull up the corners so they are above the neck of the jar and tie with the red ribbon.

9. Lace the red heart with the recipe on it onto the red ribbon. Tie the red ribbon securely to the jar.
