How to Catch Sparrows
Besides the woodpecker, there are few birds a homeowner despises more than the sparrow. These slender, dark birds prefer to make their nests within the walls of your house, often ruining wood and siding in the process. These birds are difficult but not impossible to get rid of.

Purchase a sparrow trap. These are long metal cages with a trap door that will allow several sparrows to enter but not leave. Sparrow traps are available through several online retailers as well as home and garden stores in your area. In addition, buy anything recommended to attach the trap to your home.

Locate the part of your home where a sparrow nest has been made. Most likely you will not be able to see the actual nest the sparrows build. Rather, there will be a crude hole in the side of the nest where you will see the birds entering and exiting regularly.

Wait until nighttime, which is the time sparrows are traditionally in their nests and asleep. Use a ladder, if necessary, to reach the nest and quietly attach the trap to the side of the house with the trap door facing the hole. In the morning when the sparrows awake, they will try to exit and become snared in the trap.

Wear a pair of heavy leather work gloves and climb back up the ladder the next day. There should be several sparrows in the trap. Remove the trap and avoid being bit by the birds.

Release the sparrows in a heavily wooded area far away from your home. This will safely reintroduce them into the wild. When you return home, destroy the nest and cover the hole with chicken wire.
