Tips & Warnings
Fabric or flexible napkin rings work better for fanned napkins that will lie on a flat surface like a table or plate.
Larger napkins like those that are at least 12 x 12 inches work better for napkin fans.
Heavy napkins are better suited to half fold fan pleats.
Lighter weight cloth and paper napkins work better when folder into thirds before pleating.
Do not use sharp napkin rings for children's place settings.
There is no use in attempting to fan pleat a flimsy napking. The pleats will not hold and the napkin won't lie or stand up properly.
