How to Make a Crocheted Pot Holder

One of the fastest, quickest and easiest crochet projects to make is a potholder. You can make a set of crochet potholders in a few evenings, and these beautiful items will last in the kitchen for years to come. Use two strands of yarn to crochet the pot holders. That ensures that your potholder is thick enough for all of your cooking needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold two strands of yarn together at the same time. They should be identical. You now want to use an I crochet gook, and make a chain of 27 stitches.

    • 2

Use a single crochet in the second chain from the hook, and use a single crochet in each stitch across. When you reach the end, chain one. This is your turning chain, and it is to be completed at the end of every row.

    • 3

Working under both loops, single crochet in each stitch across. Add one turning chain at the end of each row.

    • 4

Work the pattern in the exact same way for 26 rows. Remember to keep adding one turning chain at the end of each row.

    • 5

Finish off. Be sure to leave a tail about 4 inches long for weaving. To add a loop for hanging, attach two strands of the yarn to the corner of the potholder with a slip stitch. Chain 11 stitches. Single crochet in each stitch, and join the beginning loop with a slip stitch. Finish off, and weave in all loose ends.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a nice finish, slip stitch around the entire perimeter of the pot holder.

  • Listen to music as you stitch to pass the time more enjoyably.

  • Make sure all loose ends are tightly woven in the potholder.
