The Victorian style is over-abundant and luxurious, and you will want to purchase beautiful, ornate pieces, such as a settee, an armoire, a bedside table and antique tables and chairs. Wood furniture, cherry or chestnut, is best. Any furniture that does not have a clear purpose should not be used.

  2. Step 2

Victorian style usually uses a warm color and a cool color. You can start by accenting the walls with a warm white or a yellow. A bright color on the walls will make the room seem brighter and bigger. Use cooler accent colors on bedspreads, curtains and rugs, such as rose and pale pink, or periwinkle and white. Floral patterns were very common, and beautiful floral patterns can be found for the walls, curtains or both. Bedspreads, however, should be fairly uncomplicated, using a solid color. However, two or three bedspreads can be all different, but complementary, colors.

  3. Step 3

Accessorize the bedroomPillows, pictures, excessive window dressings, vases, flowers, lacy and embroidered handkerchiefs and linens all add to the atmosphere of the room, creating the look you want. By adding a few black and white or sepia photos, you can add a classy touch that is very true to the times.

  4. Step 4

Find the right lightingLights should be just as ornamental as everything else. Find lamps and light shades that have lots of fabric on the shades, pretty chandeliers that add to the atmosphere and other small lamps that can sit on tables and nightstands.
