How to Make a Raffia Wrapped Mirror

Raffia is a natural fiber that can be woven like straw. Raffia can be purchased in natural straw color or dyed colors of brugundy, green or brown. The Raffia Wrapped Mirror will be a welcomed addition to your guest bathroom. To add a touch of country to your guest bathroom you can create a lovely Raffia Wrapped Mirror, that is adorned with dried flowers and decorative beads.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Polyester foam form 1 ½ x 9 x 12 inches
  • Ruler
  • Marker
  • Kitchen knife
  • Raffia
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Dried flowers with stems
  • Decorative button or beads
  • Mirror hanger.
  1. Step 1

    Gather your material together on a tabletop for easy access while you work to create your Raffia Wrapped Mirror. You will need your polyester foam form, scissors, ruler, pencil, glue, Kitchen Knife, dried flowers, decorative beads and of course your raffia.

  2. Step 2

    Take your polyester foam form and using your ruler measure and mark a 5 x 7 inch rectangle in the center of the foam form.

  3. Step 3

    Use the kitchen knife to saw out the rectangle. Save the rectangle and recycle it for some other craft.

  4. Step 4

    Pick up your foam frame and start to wrap the raffia around the width of the frame from top and bottom. Use hot glue at the ends of the raffia to attach to the back of the frame. Make sure that the none of the frame shows through, double wrap the raffia if necessary to cover the entire frame.

  5. Step 5

    Wrap the raffia around the length of the frame. Hot glue the raffia at the ends of the to the back of frame. Make sure that none of the foam shows through, double wrap if necessary.

  6. Step 6

    Wrap the middle sections of the sides, top and bottom of the frame with raffia, so that all of the foam is completely covered. , Whenever you come to an end of a strand of Raffia use the hot glue to secure it to the frame.

  7. Step 7

    Use the hot gun glue to add your mirror to the back of your frame. Hold with your fingers to make sure that the mirror is securely attached.

  8. Step 8

    Use the hot glue gun to add your dried flowers as a decoration to the left hand side of the mirror.

  9. Step 9

    Take the glue add some decorative beads to the bottom of the frame in a geometric zigzag pattern, use browns, reds, blues and whites and varying sizes to form your zigzag pattern which will finish off your mirror.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set you mirror up in a guest bath and put fresh flowers around it.
  • Dust the mirror off with a light cloth when needed
