How to Clean Turquoise Jewelry

Those old pieces of chunky, turquoise jewelry--so popular in the 1960s and 1970s--are back in style. They're hot as big rings, bracelets and necklaces, especially for summer looks. Go through your old jewelry box, dust off those blue gems and clean them gently and easily--without any cleaning products.

Things You'll Need

• Water
• Soft-bristled toothbrush

Instructions

1. Dip the piece of jewelry in warm water.

2. Gently scrub the turquoise and its setting with a soft toothbrush.

3. Rinse with warm water to wash away any debris you may have dislodged.

4. Let air-dry. Don’t try to dry with a towel.

Tips & Warnings

• Avoid contact with cleaning fluids, such as ammonia. Silver cleaners can discolor turquoise.
