Things You'll Need

  • King crab
  • Salt
  • Seafood seasoning
  • Butter (optional)
  • Seafood cocktail sauce (optional)
  • Pot steamer or electric steamer
  • Microwave or small pot
  • Platter
  • Paper towels
  • Thong to break shell of seafood

Instructions

      Remove King crab from freezer, if it was purchased at an earlier date.

      Fill your steamer whether electric or pot with water, to about 2/3 of the way full. Add salt to taste. Salting the water first will help add flavor to the crab. Place the frozen King crab into the steamer.

      Steam for approximately 30 minutes. Depending upon how much crab you are cooking, you may need to steam a little longer.

      Let the steam settle down and crab cool, before removing the crab, to keep yourself from getting burned.

      Remove the King crab from the pot or electric steamer, once crab has cooled a bit. Place on paper towel to absorb the excess water from the crab. You may need to repeat a few times.

      Open crab up with thongs and remove crab from shell and place on platter. Sprinkle with seafood seasoning.

      In a small pot or microwave, melt the butter. Add a little seafood seasoning to butter. Use seasoned butter as a side condiment. Another option is to have seafood cocktail sauce as another side condiment.
