How to Use an MK-3 Signal Mirror
You've been trekking for several days through complete wilderness. Yesterday you finally admitted to yourself that you were lost--hopelessly so. The only sign of civilization that you've come across in 72 hours is the twice-daily flyovers of a plane--whether passenger or otherwise you haven't the slightest idea. All you know is that you'd like nothing better than to signal it and get rescued. Luckily, you've brought along your trusty MK-3 Signal Mirror. It's time to take it out and signal that plane.
Instructions

1
Wait for the sound of a plane in the distance.
-
2
Pull out your signal mirror and hold the reflective side up to the sun. Reflect the sunlight onto some nearby object--your hand, a rock, a tree, or some other surface. You've just captured light--now keep it in your sights.

-
3
Holding the mirror firmly and keeping an eye on the patch of light you've captured, bring the mirror up to eye-level. Peer through the sighting hole. The bright dot of light you see is the aim indicator.
-
4
Keeping the mirror at eye-level, slowly and steadily move it around until the bright dot of light--the aim indicator--is pointed onto your target: the plane. You are now signaling the plane.

Even if the plane doesn't appear to have spotted your signal, keep signaling for several minutes after it has gone.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have an MK-3 Signal Mirror, any mirror will do. Even the side of a canteen, a metal mug, a belt buckle, or some other metal object can be polished well and used to reflect the sun.
Even if there isn't a plane around, signal frequently anyway, sweeping the sky with reflected light. This light can often be seen for miles--so don't give up hope.
An MK-3 Signal Mirror can be worn like a necklace around your neck. Even if you don't have one, drill a hole through a small mirror and wear it, too, like a necklace--that way you'll always have a signaling device handy.
