How to Make Rose Petal Perfume

The smell of a rose is timeless and romantic, and is a very popular scent used in perfumes. Without breaking the bank, you can make a very simple and personal rose petal perfume right in your own kitchen. An excellent way to use the blooms from your own garden, homemade rose petal perfume is an easy project that would make a delightful gift--if you can bear parting with it once it's done!

Things You'll Need

• 6 cups of rose petals, stamens removed
• Large pot
• Distilled water
• Cheesecloth
• Funnel
• Bowl
• Vodka
• Rose essential oil
• Glycerin
• Eyedropper
• Perfume bottle

Instructions

1. Bring a large pot of water to boil on the stove. Add the 6 cups of rose petals to the water and reduce the heat to simmer. Simmer the rose petals for 2 hours.

2. Remove the rose petals from the heat and strain the liquid. Pour the mixture through a funnel slowly onto a cheesecloth placed over a large bowl. Twist the cheesecloth and wring out all of the liquid from the cooked rose petal pulp. Allow the rose water to cool to room temperature.

3. Measure out 2 cups of the cooled rosewater into a large bowl.

4. Add 3 tablespoons of vodka.

5. Add 10 drops of rose essential oil.

6. Add 4 drops of glycerin.

7. Stir the perfume and let it sit for a few minutes to develop its scent. Smell it and add a few more drops of rose essential oil if you'd like the scent to be stronger.

8. When you are satisfied with the scent, pour the rose petal perfume into a perfume bottle.

Tips & Warnings

• If you wish, you may omit the rose essential oil for a much more delicate fragrance. Or, you may add a different essential oil for a combination of scents.
