A hookah bar is a lounge where patrons share shisha, flavored tobacco, from a hookah. Most hookah bars offer multi-stemmed hookahs, glass based water pipes, for customers to enjoy their favorite tobaccos heated by coals placed in/on the hookah. Increasing in popularity in the US, you will learn how to enjoy Austin's best hookah bars with the following tips.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the atmosphere with which you're most comfortable. Pipes Plus is an alcohol free hookah bar located on Guadalupe Street. It is small and can get very crowded very easily. Red Fez, found on Fifth Street, is known for long lines, fast music and a New York ambiance. If neither of those suit you, then the Headhunter on Red River Street is a draw for the heavy metal crowd.

  2. Step 2

Know what you can tolerate. If you want to enjoy the best hookah bars in Austin you'll have to prepare yourself for the quirkier staffs that are employed at these establishments. The service at hookah bars tends to vary. There are complaints galore about the velvet rope put up by doormen at the Red Fez. Bribing these guys to get in can be a hassle. On the other hand, Pipes Plus is touted to be one of the friendliest hookah bars in Austin. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home and check your coals regularly to make sure you continue to enjoy the flavor of your shisha.

  3. Step 3

Look at price. Not only is Pipes Plus known for their friendly staff, their prices hover around $10 for each bowl of shisha. Mr. Nice Guys, on the corner of South First Street and Dittman is the only independently owned shop in the area and keeps their prices low as well. However, Kasbah tends to be more expensive and cater to a stuffier crowd.
