Deciding to go on a road trip is the easy part. After that you have to pick your destinations and plot out how you are going to get there. Our American roadways are filled with many freeways, highways and expressways. The questions is, how big of a hurry are you in? What part of the U.S. do you want to see? After answering those questions, you will be on your way to a fun adventure on the road.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a map. The map does not have to be a map of the entire USA, if you are staying on the west coast, then just get a map of the west coast. Doing this will make it easier when you are trying to navigate.

    • 2

Decide where you would like to go. Are there specific landmarks that spark your interest or beautiful cities that are too small for most people to consider worthy of travel?

    • 3

Mark your destinations with a bold dot using your color marker. Next to these bold dots, you could also leave a small comment on what is there, or if you want to stay the night at a specific destination, that too would be good to plot out. Also plot where you plan to get gas and/or eat.

    • 4

Connect the dots using the same color maker. This is where the fun begins. Do you want to go on side roads such as Route 66? There are lots of fun sights to see on smaller roads such as the largest ball of yarn.

Pack your car and be on your way!

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you put emergency numbers on your road map such as Triple A's number, or the number to your road side assistance service.

  • Before your road trip, check the weather forecast so that you're not in the Midwest during tornado season, or traveling through Florida when a hurricane strikes.
