How to Delete Cookies on a Mac

Internet cookies are used by websites to send and receive information from individual computers. Cookies can make your visits to shopping, networking or news websites easier by saving pertinent information so that you don't have to continually enter the information. However, cookies also can create a security risk, making some of your private information available to others. Removing cookies on your Mac can be done through the preferences settings of your Web browser.

  1. Removing Cookies in Safari

      Click the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences."

      Click "Security" and select the "Bookmarks" tab.

      Under the Accept Cookies preferences, click the "Show Cookies" button. All of the cookies stored in Safari will appear in a list.

      Highlight the cookies you want to delete and remove them one at a time by clicking the "Remove" button. You also can click the "Remove All" button to eliminate all the cookies in the list.

    Remove Cookies in Mozilla Firefox

      Click the "Firefox" menu and select "Preferences."

      Click "Privacy."

      Click the "Show Cookies" button. All the cookies stored in Firefox will appear in a list organized by domain name. Click the arrow to the left of each Web address to view specific cookies.

      Highlight an entire domain name or the individual cookies under each and click the "Remove Cookies" button to delete. You also can click the "Remove All Cookies" button to eliminate all the cookies that are stored.
