Pigeons have been coined by many homeowners as "flying rats" that are determined to stay in the same spot. Many of the pigeons you see in your area were actually born in the area; they don't like to move out of their habitat. Before choosing the extermination method for removing your pigeons, make sure local laws allow it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bird Feed
  • Avitrol
  1. Step 1

Prepare the Avitrol or strychnine. Both poisons are deadly to pigeons. Mix the poison with corn or other bird food.

  2. Step 2

In order to exterminate the pigeons, you will need to gain their trust. This means sitting outside and luring them into your yard with food on a regular basis.

  3. Step 3

Bait the pigeons. You want to keep the birds baited in your yard with corn and other bird foods until the birds are eating from your stash on a regular basis.

  4. Step 4

Lace the food. After the pigeons trust you, lace the corn with the Avitrol or strychnine. Once the pigeons eat the feed, they will die shortly thereafter.

  5. Step 5

After extermination, the birds will need to be collected and removed from the area. Also make sure to clean all of the laced corn away from any places where other animals may be able to ingest the poison.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never use pigeon poison with small children or house pets in the area.

on 12/6/2009 Your solution is not only harmful to non-target animals but small children. Poison is cruel and illegal in most communities. Killing pigeons will only open up room for other pigeons to appear. There is a multitude of humane methods to deter pigeons. One is less food, therefore fewer pigeons. Others are silhouettes of predator birds, streamers blowing in the wind, screens/netting on attics, soffit vents and perching areas. So, next time before you suggest using poison, try taking a few minutes to do some actual research. People and animals will be safer for it.
