Some markets go the extra mile for their customers. Their delivery fees usually depend on how close you live to the store. To place an order, call and ask for customer service. If you call before a certain time, you often can get same-day delivery. Some grocery store chains let you order online as well.

Local grocery and errand services also make home deliveries. Many will shop for perishable and nonperishable items and get them to you within 24 hours. Some will personalize the service; for example, if you order a certain brand of cereal and it isn't available, you can request a different one or say you don't want to substitute.

Although many online grocery stores have come and gone, some are still serving customers. For instance, Netgrocer.com doesn't ship perishable foods but will send you just about anything else, including canned goods, over-the-counter drugs, health and beauty items and electronics. Don't wait until the last minute to order from online grocers, though. Delivery time may be up to four days.
