Go Ghost Hunting in Gettysburg

Gettysburg is one of the most haunted locations in the United States. The Civil War and the intense and tragic battles here have left an indelible mark on the landscape and the people here. In places of great trauma and turmoil there is often some otherworldly echo still playing on, and it is no truer than in Gettysburg. The landscape is full of residual energy and the apparitions of soldiers looking for their buddies amongst the dead, and the sounds of wailing and cries from the women left behind. If you approach the area with respect, ghost hunters won’t be disappointed here and will inevitably have a personal experience to walk away with.

Take a tour of the Jennie Wade House. Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed during the Civil War while this 20-year-old was baking bread for Union troops. Visitors to this historic home report many paranormal occurrences including smelling bread baking and an overwhelming sense of grief. Ghost hunters have had a lot of success capturing orbs outside the home, but try some EVP work here if you dare.

Cross the Sachs Covered Bridge. This is the bridge the Confederate Army used to withdraw from the battlefield. It was also the site of a triple hanging, and perhaps that is why it is a favorite spot among ghost hunters.

      • 6

Finally, book a night at the Cashtown Inn. This historic inn was once occupied by Jefferson Davis and his troops before entering Gettysburg. Investigated by the TAPS team from SCI-FI channel's Ghost Hunters show, visitors have experienced many paranormal activities here and you’ll hear plenty of stories from staff.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Book tours well in advance as they fill up in peak season.

    • Skip the tours and just head to the battlefield. There are plenty of paranormal activities here, so do a self-guided tour.

    • Be respectful. This is a tragic part of American history and the troops that died here should be respected.
