Costa Verde off Lima, Peru is an ideal spot to launch a hang glider. With constant breezes from the Pacific Ocean and steep black volcanic cliffs and with a expert training, you can be souring for hours above the City of Kings. Tour operators offer both beginner and advanced courses. Whether you want to ride tandem with a professional or glide on your own, you can soar with the birds on your trip to Lima, Peru. Even tourists just visiting for a day can ride tandem for a fifteen minute thrill. There's no better way to tour Lima than a few hundred feet in the air.

    How to go Hang Gliding in Lima, Peru

  1. Step 1

    Contact local para-gliding companies prior to your trip to arrange for equipment rental or class information. There are a couple of this companies listed in the Resources section below this article. They can be contacted by the Internet or by a long distance call to Peru.

  2. Step 2

    Determine if you want to rent the equipment or take a class. The equipment rentals will vary by tour operator costing around a couple hundred dollars. A single tandem ride with an instructor can cost around $50 for fifteen minutes.

  3. Step 3

    Take a one day class if you plan to have a short stay in Lima. You will ride a tandem glider if you are a beginner. Take a week long course so you can be certified to operate a glider on you own. You will earn a certificate from the Peruvian Association of Free Flight.

  4. Step 4

    Arrange for transportation to the Costa Verde in Miralfores District of Lima, Peru. This is the point where tour operators and individuals will launch their para-gliders off the cliffs. Cab rides are about 45 minutes from the International Airport and cost about fifty dollars. A cab ride from the heart of Miraflores is about five minutes and three dollars.

  5. Step 5

    Whether you rent a glider or take a tandem flight off the Costa Verde, the views will be the same. Magnificent views of the black volcanic sand beaches, steep cliffs lining the Pacific Ocean, surfers lining up their next waves and lighthouses jutting out into the sea.

Tips & Warnings
  • You need to be a minimum age of 14 years old with with parents signed permission to glide in Peru. You should be physically fit and wear heavy boots to protect you for landing.
  • Make sure you see the license of the tour operator you book your first gliding experience with. They must be licensed to operate a tour.
