DONT GET CAUGHT ON THE STREET DOING THIS!!!! -take it off road

Ever wondered how those formula drifters can slide endless corners time after time? Here's some pointers:

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Rear-Wheel Drive car or small pickup truck
  • Manual Transmission
  • Courage
  • A safe place to practice like an empty parking lot
  1. Step 1

Approach your turn with alot of speed in 3rd gear

  2. Step 2

As you get closer to the apex of the turn, aim the nose of your car toward the center of the apex.

  3. Step 3

Tap the brakes, or better yet: pull your handbrake (if available) to transfer weight to the front of the car.

  4. Step 4

(this is a very quick action) As you begin the weight transfer, you should have the car's gears in this sequence: 3rd gear to 2nd(clutch in and reving high), then drop the clutch (and be prepared to have the car do a complete 180....this way you will give it alot of throttle, but not too much or for too long)

  5. Step 5

Once you are into a drift, maintain your throttle level with the direction of the corner exit.

  6. Step 6

You will eventually straighten out, with a careful throttle.

  7. Step 7

Now shift from 2nd back to 3rd, and repeat until you are comfortable with your cars weight distribution.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice on snow if possible...it will let you do everything above, but at a much lower speed.
  • If you live somewhere it doesn't snow, then try it after a good rain storm.(this will save your tires in the long run, or at least until you know what you're doing)
  • Another good way to practice is on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, as you do not want to hurt anyone or get caught wreckless driving
  • Go buy some used tires from a garage, because if youre on the road, you will eventually trash the rear tires=$$$$
  • This is a dangerous stunt, bottom line....
  • Do not do this on the streets, and if you do, please make certain there are no other cars or people around.
  • If a police officer catches you on the streets drifting, you can expect to lose your license, face jail time, fines, and whatever else they feel like tossing at you.
  • You can expect tire and clutch wear, as drifting on asphalt is usually better after the tires have heated up and become more of a sticky consistency.
