A turban is a long piece of fabric that is worn on the head. Typically, males wear turbans but females can wear them, too. The fabric is woven over the head in a pattern. Tying a turban takes some practice but, with time, you will be able to easily weave it. The benefits of wearing a turban are protection for your head, keeping your head warm in the winter, and preventing long hair from being in your face. Turbans have been worn for thousands of years for various reasons.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long piece of fabric
  1. Step 1

    Get the fabric.

  2. Step 2

Hold the fabric in both hands.

  3. Step 3

Roll the long edges towards you, or inward.

  4. Step 4

Hold one end while you roll the other end around your head. Work on the diagonal as you move around your head.

  5. Step 5

Unwrap the fabric smoothly. No bulges or creases in the fabric. It must lie smoothly against your head.

  6. Step 6

Twist the fabric. Once you've made the first circle around your head, twist the fabric and move it down around your forehead. This makes a ridge.

  7. Step 7

Repeat the process. Keep going until the fabric is just about used up. You will keep working on the diagonal except when you make the twist and ridge across your forehead.

  8. Step 8

Tuck the remaining end, or piece of fabric, under the top of the turban.

  9. Step 9

    Secure with bobby pins.

  10. Step 10

Secure the first piece of fabric. The piece of fabric that you began with will remain loose. Tuck this into the back of the turban and secure it with bobby pins, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a fun head piece to wear, but it takes a bit of practice. Keep at it and have fun in the process.
