Things You'll Need:
- Domain Name
- Web Hosting Service
- HTML Editor
- FTP Software
- Advertisers
- Affiliate Program Sign-ups
- Legal Assistance
-
Step 1
Before you begin anything with your website, you need to decide your niche. A niche is a particular subject, or topic that will draw visitors and money makers into your website. To find a niche, you can conduct research of your own. Make it something you know well, and can easily update.
-
Step 2
Now that you have your niche and you know what you are going to do. Look for a domain name, which can be done through a variety of services. Find a domain that is easy to remember, and fits with your niche well.
-
Step 3
With your domain name, you need hosting to make the website live on the internet. Hosting can be purchased through a variety of vendors. You can also get free hosting and point your domain to the free hosting. Make sure that your hosting plan includes all the features you need to create your website (PHP & MySQL support are big ones, OSCommerce is a good one to look for as well) and has plenty of storage space and bandwidth to accommodate your traffic.
-
Step 4
Now that you have your concept, your domain, and hosting, you need to use your HTML editor to create the actual website. Save copies to your hard drive, and then upload them to your web hosting using the FTP software.
-
Step 5
To make money with your website, you need advertisers, and affiliate links. Sell advertising space, use Google AdSense, and place products for sale from other sites, like Amazon and eBay, on the appropriate pages of your site.
-
Step 6
Add service options like product reviews, and create specials on advertising so that you draw interest. If you want to, you can charge for your website services, and make money with memberships. However, many people do not like having to pay for a membership unless they know the service and what it offers, so it may not work well. Offer a free trial if nothing else.
-
Step 7
Make sure your site is legal, carrying the appropriate clauses and disclaimers. Also make sure that the website is legal in terms of the money you make, and how you pay taxes on said income. Discuss this with local lawyers, and make sure that you stay in compliance.
