How to Shorten a Cab Ride on the Las Vegas Strip

Traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas--otherwise known as the Las Vegas strip--is usually stop and go. This is not a problem for tourists on foot; but if you hail a taxi cab hoping to save yourself a few steps between casinos, you could spend a lot of money on an interminable cab ride. Arm yourself with some local knowledge and next time you're in a cab on the Las Vegas strip, you can shorten your ride by telling your cab driver exactly where you want to go.

Instructions

  1. Shorten Your Cab Trip and Save Money on the Las Vegas Strip

    • 1

Ask your cab driver to take Koval Lane. Koval Lane provides quick, direct access to the parking structures for all casinos on the east side of the Las Vegas strip. Koval Lane runs parallel to the Las Vegas strip, just to the east, between Tropicana and Desert Inn.

    • 2

Ask your cab driver to take Frank Sinatra Drive. It runs parallel to the Las Vegas strip to the west.

    • 3

Ask your cab driver to take Industrial Road, also to the west of the strip, which provides access to other casinos.

    • 4

Ask your cab driver to take Paradise Road, a diagonal to the east of the strip. This will take you to the Las Vegas Convention Center and McCarran International Airport.

    • 5

Ask your cab driver to take the most direct route to the freeway. Be aware that all the major streets that cross the Las Vegas Strip--Tropicana Avenue, Flamingo Road, Spring Mountain Road, Desert Inn Road, Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard--provide direct access to Interstate 15. There is no need to travel between these streets on the Las Vegas strip.

    • 6

Be aware that there are two main routes used to get to McCarran International Airport. Tropicana Road travels east of the Las Vegas strip to the airport. Alternatively, Interstate 15 will take you south to the 215 Beltway, which in turn goes to the airport. Ask your cab driver which way she's headed and if the other route is shorter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Download a map of the strip. If you encounter the rare Las Vegas cab driver who feels you must see the sights of the Las Vegas Strip from a barely moving taxi cab, you'll be able to speak up more confidently if you know your way around.
