Taking a baby for a road trip can be a disaster if you don't take into consideration how you will care for your baby. Depending on the age of the baby, one may have a set schedule while a younger one will still have feeding and naps at different times. If you do have a schedule for your baby, try and keep the routine as similar as possible while on the road trip in order to keep the baby's stress levels down, and yours as well.

How to Prepare a Baby for a Road Trip

  1. Step 1

Let your baby wiggle, crawl, or walk around the house before the road trip. Stimulate them as much as possible so they become tired and may decide to take a nap during the beginning of the road trip. You can do this by reading, singing, and talking to them.

  2. Step 2

Take your baby for a walk around the neighborhood to give them some fresh air before going on a road trip. Let them explore and take in all the sights and sounds. This can get them ready to take a nap when they first start the car ride.

  3. Step 3

Look at a map and designate where you will stop along your route. Plan plenty of stops for diaper changes or feedings to keep your baby's needs met.

  4. Step 4

Gather supplies for an emergency kit. You may have an unplanned emergency, such as a flat tire or an explosive diaper throughout the trip. The more prepared you are, the less stressful the emergency can be.

  5. Step 5

Clothe your baby in something that is comfortable to sit in. Avoid tight clothing such as jeans and consider letting them travel in their pajamas.

  6. Step 6

Feed and change your baby right before you leave your house. This will help give you the most time before your first stop.
