How to Spend Time in New York City with Children
-
1
Visit the sites that kids recognize. Many children have studied or have at least heard of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Empire State Building. Get kids excited about touring the city by including these well-known landmarks in your schedule.
-
2
See the city from a double-decker bus. Kids love buses (and a double-decker is twice the fun!) but not necessarily listening to a tour. The bus tours allow kids to take in the sites and parents to get the interesting information on many of New York City's attractions. There are a few different bus tours that enable tourists to pack in many of the city's sites with a guide. They also allow riders to hop on and off at the different tourist stops.

3
Make reservations in advance. The Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and the bus tours all allow guests to make reservations before they leave home which saves on time and frustration.
-
4
Walk around Central Park. This is a great place to let the kids burn off energy. The park is filled with open areas, playgrounds and rocks to climb. If that is not enough excitement, head to the Central Park Zoo, which is walkable and stroller-friendly.
-
5
Get your family on television. The Today Show, The Early Show and Good Morning America all have outdoor areas for the audience to watch the show, as well as a chance to be on television. Good Morning America requires tickets to go to the inside viewing area. The tickets are free, but must be obtained in advance.
-
6
Dine at a family friendly restaurant. Serendipity 3 is a fun ice-cream shop that also has a variety of American cuisine like hamburgers and hot dogs. Mickey Mantle's, located across from Central Park, is loaded with baseball memorabilia and televisions to keep everyone entertained. If all else fails, grab food from any of the numerous street-food vendors who specialize in everything from hot dogs to cheese steaks to tacos.
