How to Get Jessica Simpson's Waves

  1. Step 1
    Volumizing spray

    Volumizing spray

Begin with slightly damp hair for the best results. Turn the hair upside down, and spray the roots with a volumizing spray and then flip the hair back and comb to distribute the styling products.

  2. Step 2
Blow dry upside down for increased volume

Blow dry the hair at the roots to get volume, and continue on the rest of the hair until it is straight and completely dry.

  3. Step 3

Separate the hair into three sections, one near the base of the skull, one toward the middle of the head, and the final one at the crown. Secure each section into a hair clip so that it is easier to curl without other pieces getting in the way.

  4. Step 4

Make sure that the curling iron is hot, and begin with a 1" portion of hair in the bottom section. Before curling each piece, lightly spritz it with hairspray for additional hold, and then wrap the section of hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Wrapping the hair around the iron instead of the traditional method allows you to curl the hair from the root to the ends. Hold iron for 5-10 seconds for a subtle wave, or longer for a tighter curl. Be sure to hold the iron in a vertical direction, so that waves are spiral when finished. Jessica Simpson has large waves, so using a larger barrel curling iron can bring closer results than if using a smaller iron.

  5. Step 5
At any length, wavy hair looks great!

Pin each curl to the scalp while you are doing the rest of the hair. Once you have finished curling all three sections, unpin the curls and loosen by applying cool air from the hair dryer on them or separating the curls with your fingers. Set curls with a fine mist of hairspray, so that they look and feel natural. Jessica Simpson's wavy hair is ideal because it looks natural and flowing, and is easy to copy.
