How to Beat the Halo Level of Halo 3

This is it. The final chapter. The Covenant is finished, wiped out, their leadership gone. But the Flood has obtained a foothold beyond the rim of the galaxy, past the reach of the Halo rings. All you've got is a plan and a pistol. This level will determine the fate of humanity. You'll need your best shooting and driving skills to take care of the Flood once and for all and get off the Ark alive.

Instructions

  1. Up and at em'

    • 1

Proceed through the snowy canyon once you get off by the pelican, after you have searched for weapons. There aren't any enemies in this section.

    • 2

Be ready for a fight once you drop down a few short cliffs. Flood will begin dropping from the sky in drop-ship-like hunks of mass. Take them out from long range until they are down to a manageable number, then close with your shotgun. Ammo preservation isn't as big a concern in this level, since more of the Flood use ranged weapons.

    • 3

Pick up the rocket launcher on the bottom right of a huge structure. Tuck it away and bring it out when you face particularly large groups of Flood.

    • 4

Pick up the flame-thrower you will encounter just up the first ramp. Remember to use short bursts when there is only one or two flood. They will burn to death in a few seconds, and your powerful flame-thrower will last longer.

    • 5

Keep going until you reach the top of the structure. Once you get there, don't stand between St. Johnson and any Flood that attack you, or he wont be able to help you out.

    Final fight

    • 6

Hit the Monitor with whatever you have while avoiding its hunter-like laser. Despite this being the final big fight in the game it's remarkably easy.

    • 7

Don't waste too much ammo on the Monitor. You'll need it for the coming escape.

    • 8

Hit the Monitor a few times when Johnson gives you the spartan laser. He will fold quickly and in dramatic fashion.

    Maybe we should leave now

    • 9

Head back out the way you came. There will be a mass of Flood now. Take care of the large bodies, then run past the little ones and the kamikazes.

    • 10

When you exit the structure, there is a snow ledge to your right. Jump up and run along it.

    • 11

Head through the last installation. When you see groups of Flood and sentinels fighting each other, either try to find a way around or wait it out until the fight is winding down, when there are few combatants left to take care of.

    • 12

Jump in the warthog. It's time for a little homage to the original Halo.

    • 13

Follow the blue arrow over the exploding structure. When you come to seemingly solid parts, follow the straight red pathway to get to the other side easily. Don't even think about slowing down to engage the multitudes of enemies swarming the area. The only ones that can slow you down are the kamikazes, and that's only if you run into one and it tips you over by exploding.

    • 14

When you see a huge column tearing through the tiles, head left.

    • 15

Go full speed when you approach the end of the run. You will need all the speed you can get to make the jump into the ship, and it's not a good feeling to shoot your way through three games only to fall short by a few inches on the last obstacle of the last level between you and complete victory.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't attack the sentinels that appear atop the huge structure. They are still friendly to you until you begin your escape.

  • Drive at about half speed when making your big escape. The run isn't timed, and going slower will let you make better decisions about which path to take over the falling tiles.
