How to Delete Temporary Internet Files

Whenever you access the Internet, your computer is constantly saving files of images and text that appear on your browser. These files are called Temporary Internet Files and can take up valuable space on your hard drive. Regularly deleting them can improve the way your computer runs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Delete your Temporary Internet Files through the Control Panel, with no browsers open. Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Double-click on "Internet Options."

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Delete" or "Delete Files" under Browsing History on the General tab. Among the options are deleting your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History. Click on "Delete" next to Temporary Internet Files to delete all of your temporary files from using Internet Explorer.

  3. Step 3

    Delete Temporary Internet Files from within the browser itself, if you use a browser other than Internet Explorer. In Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and then "Internet Options." This will bring you to the same place as Step 2.

  4. Step 4

    Click "Tools," then "Clear Private Data," if you are using Firefox. This allows you to delete several file types, including Cache, which will delete your Temporary Internet Files.

  5. Step 5

    Click "Tools," then "Delete Private Data, " if you use Opera. This will also allow you to delete many types of files, including your cache.
