Want to practice your HTML skills, or design a website from scratch and have everything exactly the way you want it? You'll need an HTML editor, a helpful program that allows you to type in your HTML code and instantly see how your website will look and work. Read on to find out where to get an HTML editor and how to use it.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Acquire an HTML editor, which you can do in one of three ways: (a) Download a program onto your computer from a website. There are many HTML editors available online (see Resources below for a link to one). Usually, you can use a program for a trial period and then pay for it if you want to keep using it. (b) Go to a brick-and-mortar store, buy an HTML editor and install the program onto your computer. (c) Use one of the many Web-based editors available online (see Resources). You don't have to download anything to your computer. You simply go to the website and use their HTML editor. It's easy, and there's no commitment involved. However, with this option, you cannot save your code or publish your website to the Internet.

  2. Step 2

Fire up your chosen HTML editor and begin entering your HTML code. Most likely, the HTML editor will have two separate areas. The first area is where you type your HTML code, and the second area displays the results of the HTML code. You can practice your programming skills and experiment with different elements until your website is perfect.

  3. Step 3

Transfer your website from inside the HTML editor to the Internet. For this last step, you will need to find a Web host for your website. There are many places online that will host your new website.
