How to Out Rebound Larger Basketball Opponents

Step1
Time your jump just right. Often it isn’t the first player to leave the ground that gets the basketball. Extend your arms to have more control over your entire body, including your fingertips.
Step2
Judge the trajectory of the bounce. Try to be where the ball is going to come off of the basketball rim. Learn how the arcs of different shots will affect where you need to be for the best rebounding position.
Step3
Box your opponent out. Face the basketball goal and put your opponent to your back when the basketball leaves the shooter’s hands. This will allow you to have more time to get to the basketball.
Step4
Scramble for every loose ball. Speed will help you come up with the ball more than a height advantage if used correctly. Use quick motions, such as pivots, to fake out your opponent and come up with the basketball.
Step5
Focus on the ball as much as possible. Know where the basketball is and try to get it in your possession whenever you can. Your goal is to be the possessor of the basketball.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid being distracted by other players or even trash talk on the court.
