How to Use Water for Scrying

Scrying has been used for centuries as a form of divination. Various mediums have been used such as a dark/black mirror, bodies of water, crystals and the flames of a fire (ie: such as a candle). This article covers how to use the element of water for scrying.

Things You'll Need

• Flat surface (such as a table)
• Three taper or votive candles (optional)
• Matches or lighter (for lighting the candles) (optional)
• Large cup or bowl of a dark color
• Water
• Pen/Pencil (optional)
• Paper (optional)

Instructions

1. Before you begin, you may wish to ask Spirit, or whichever Divinity you feel most comfortable working with, to guide you with this working and to grant you clarity.

2. Fill the cup or bowl about 1/2 to 3/4 full with water. (If you have chosen to use food coloring, add this to the water and make sure that it is mixed completely). If you have opted to use candles, place one candle to the front of where the cup or bowl is placed and one to each side. Light each of the candles.

3. Relax and focus your mind on the question for which you are seeking guidance, or an answer.

4. Gaze into the water. Do not stare without blinking. Just relax as you gaze and let the energies and pictures come to you naturally. The images generally come to the mind's eye as snapshots.

5. You may want to keep a pen and paper handy. Take notes on the feelings and images you glean from the reading. Record everything, even if it is only key words to jog your memory later on. Keeping a journal of such workings helps in later readings. It is also a good way to gauge progress.

6. Once you have received the information you sought, end the session. Don't forget to thank Spirit for the guidance you have received.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't have a large cup or bowl of a dark color, you can use food coloring to tint the water. As a rule, if you choose to do this, use a dark color.

• If you use candles, you may want to coordinate the color of the candles to the intent of the reading (ie: if it is about a relationship or love, you may want to use pink or red candles).

• If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a few minutes to ground and center. Do not force yourself. It may take some time and practice for the images to come more easily.

• Do not attempt this or any other kind of working while under the influence of a controlled substance.

• Do not approach this or any other similar working with any kind of maliciousness or anger. Remember that which you give out comes back to you. Harm none.
