The Rhine River Valley in Germany is a beautiful, romantic area to visitThere are castles all along the Rhine in between Rudesheim in the South and Koblenz in the North, many of which can be toured. One of the castles, the Castle Maus, even features a falcon show! This article will show you how to get there.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to the Rhine River Valley area between Rudesheim and Koblenz, Germany. Castle Maus is above the village of Wellmich. It is on the east side of the Rhine, across the river from the Sankt Goarhausen and its Castle Rheinfels. You would drive north from Rudesheim or south from Koblenz on the east side of the river to reach the castle.

    • 2

Park somewhere at the bottom of the hill in the town of Wellmich. You then must make the hike by foot to reach Castle Maus. There will be a clear path of either gravel or dirt the whole way to the top. The path is actually wide enough for cars, but only the employees of the castle are able to use the road with a vehicle.

    • 3

Walk up the hill and into the castle area. There is a ticket counter where you can purchase tickets, which cost about $20. A free poster is included in the cost of admission. The bird show starts generally at 11 am and either 2:30 or 3 pm each day, seasonally from mid-March to the beginning of October. Sometimes the season will run longer into October, depending on weather and interest.

Enjoy the show. The falconer has a few different trained birds, such as the falcon, eagle, and even an owl. They are trained to perform a show for you, where each bird flies out over the Rhine and returns to the trainer. There is even an opportunity to have a picture taken of yourself right beside one of the birds!
