Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Tape, paper clips or staples
- Markers
- Craft feathers and glue (optional)
-
Step 1
Fold a sheet of paper in half lengthwise. Fold the two top corners down to form a point, as if starting to make a paper airplane.
-
Step 2
Hold the paper folded in half and draw the profile of a bird’s head, using the point as a beak. Limit the head size to fit on the angled section. Cut excess paper from around the head.
-
Step 3
Fold the paper in back of the head to form the wings. Draw bird wing designs on the outer flaps and cut out the shapes. Cut slots into the back and sides of the wings to create a fringe effect.
-
Step 4
Shape the back end of the paper into a tail that is parallel to the wings. Cut a notch down the rear and fold flaps out below the wings, or cut the bottom off the folded center and cut slots into the remaining rear section.
-
Step 5
Draw on eyes and color the beak. Use markers, paint or construction paper to add color to the wings and tail, or glue on crafting feathers.
-
Step 6
Make flight adjustments by adding weight to the front of the bird for improved flight stability. Use small paper clips, staples or wrap tape around the beak and eye area. Extra weight up front can straighten out a lot of flying faults.
