Instructions

    • 1

Use a compass to make a 51/4-inch circle on a piece of paper. Cut the circle out of the paper with the scissors.

    • 2

Take a straight pin and pin the circle to the fabric; you will need to cut out eight circles from the fabric.

    • 3

Place two of the circles with their right sides together and sew then using 5/8 inch seam allowance. Leave at least a 2-inch opening in order to fill the coasters with dried flowers.

    • 4

Trim the inside edges of the circles and snip along the seam but do not break the sewn.

    • 5

Fill the coasters with dried lavender or your choice of dried flowers to a depth of ¼ inch. Distribute the lavender evenly through the coaster. Using your fingers, smooth out the filling to an even consistency. Hand stitch the opening closed.

    • 6

Choose a color of embroidery floss that accents the fabric. Choose a decorative button that goes well with the fabric. Sew the decorative button in the center of the coaster. Go through both layers, then knot off the thread.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use other scents for filler--at Christmas a Christmas scented potpourri will entice your guests.

  • In the spring, you can use a lily scented dried flower for the scent.

  • The coasters should be hand washed in a soft liquid detergent and set to air dry.
