How to Make Lavender Aromatic Coasters
Putting out coasters for your guests shows class and protects your furniture. These coasters are filled with a surprise. They release a fragrance each time that you set down a hot mug of coffee or tea on it. The aroma drifts upwards will make surprise your guest with the sweet scent. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Paper
- Compass
- Scissor
- ¼ Yard floral fabric
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Wooden spoon
- Iron and ironing board
- Lavender flowers (you may choose your favorite dried flowers roses work well also)
- Spoon
- 4 Decorative buttons around 1 inch in diameter
- Sewing Needle
- Embroidery floss
- Straight pins

Use a compass to make a 51/4-inch circle on a piece of paper. Cut the circle out of the paper with the scissors.

Take a straight pin and pin the circle to the fabric; you will need to cut out eight circles from the fabric.

Place two of the circles with their right sides together and sew then using 5/8 inch seam allowance. Leave at least a 2-inch opening in order to fill the coasters with dried flowers.

Trim the inside edges of the circles and snip along the seam but do not break the sewn.

Fill the coasters with dried lavender or your choice of dried flowers to a depth of ¼ inch. Distribute the lavender evenly through the coaster. Using your fingers, smooth out the filling to an even consistency. Hand stitch the opening closed.

Choose a color of embroidery floss that accents the fabric. Choose a decorative button that goes well with the fabric. Sew the decorative button in the center of the coaster. Go through both layers, then knot off the thread.

Tips & Warnings
You can use other scents for filler--at Christmas a Christmas scented potpourri will entice your guests.
In the spring, you can use a lily scented dried flower for the scent.
The coasters should be hand washed in a soft liquid detergent and set to air dry.
