1
Research jobs in alternative newspapers. Most mid-sized and large cities have alternative weekly newspapers with entertainment and events in the surrounding area. These alternatives also have a wealth of listings for jobs and freelance opportunities in their classifieds sections. You can find alternative newspapers at bookstores and other retailers, which sell a variety of different newspapers. Check your favorite bookstore for an alternative weekly newspaper.
-
2
Check your daily newspaper. Read the classified section of your daily newspaper. Art jobs are listed according to the position. Make sure that you don’t forget to check the miscellaneous column in the classified section.

3
Look on association job boards for positions. Most art associations keep job listings in a newsletter or on-line for their member or the art community. National art associations usually have local chapters. Therefore, if you are a writer, you should check job listings at the National Writer’s Union. If you are a graphic designer, view the job listings for the American Institute of Graphic Arts. If you are not aware of the clubs or associations in your art field, ask a media specialist to help you or conduct research using a search engine on the Internet.
-
4
Visit large on-line job boards. There are dozens of sites with jobs for people in the art field. Make a list of the sites by conducting an Internet search, using the term ' job boards'. Then visit each site, using the site's search feature for locating 'art jobs'.
-
5
Read the bulletin boards at art schools. Most art schools have bulletin boards for part-time and full-time job opportunities.
-
6
Network with others by attending art events and socializing with artists. Spread the word that you are looking for a job. Tell your friends and relatives that you are job hunting and ask them to let you know if they know of any good opportunities.
-
7
Ask for help at the career resource center. Some art schools offer job placement help for graduates.
-
8
Attend career fairs. Pass out resumes and meet potential employers at career fairs. The best career fairs for those interested in art, are career fairs that are held by art schools or performing art academies.
