Learn how to crochet a stylish cloche hat. Bonus pattern for a flower to add to the cloche is included in these easy to follow instructions.

Things You'll Need:

  • crochet hook size H/8/5mm
  • worsted weight 4-ply
  • yarn, 2 colors
  • tapestry needle
  1. Step 1

    First, the abbreviations and their meanings: ch means single chain, sl st means slip stitch, sc means single crochet, beg means beginning. Dc is double crochet stitch, sk is skip, V-st is v stitch. Rnd means round. Now that that's out of the way, let's get to crocheting that cloche.

  2. Step 2

    Special stitch used in this cloche pattern is the V-Stitch. The V-stitch is made like this: (dc, ch 2, dc) in same ch sp or st.

  3. Step 3

    Rnd 1: With the yarn color of your choice, ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join with sl st in beg sc. (12 sc)

  4. Step 4

    Rnd 2: Ch 5 (counts as first dc ad ch 2), dc in same st, [sk next st, V-st in next st] around, sk last st, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5. (6 v-sts)

  5. Step 5

    Rnd 3: Sl st in first ch sp, ch 5, dc in same ch sp, V-st in sp between V-sts, [V-st in next V-st, V-st in sp between V-sts] around, join with sl st in 3 ch of beg ch-5. (12 V-sts)

  6. Step 6

    Rnd 4: Sl st in first ch sp, ch 5, dc in same ch sp V-st in each V-st around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5.

  7. Step 7

    Rnd 5: Sl st i first ch sp, ch 5, dc in same ch sp, V-st in next V-st, V-st in sp between V-sts, [V-st in each of next 2 V-sts, V-st in space between V-sts] around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5. (18 V-sts)

  8. Step 8

    Rnds 6 - 12: Sl st in first ch sp, ch 5, dc in same ch sp, V-st in each V-st around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5. At end of last rnd, fasten off.

  9. Step 9

    Rnd 13: Join your second color choice yarn with sl st in frst ch sp, ch 5, de in same ch sp, V-st in each V-st around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5. Fasten off.

  10. Step 10

    With your second color choice used in your cloche, ch 15, 4 dc in 3rd ch from hook, [sc in next ch, 5 dc in next ch] across, ending with sc in last ch. Fasten off.

  11. Step 11

    Fold or roll together to form Flower, tack together on bottom.

  12. Step 12

    Sew your flower onto your cloche.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using contrasting yarn colors for bet results.
  • Finished cloche size is approximately 20 inches in circumference
