How to Cure Thrush

Thrush is a yeast infection that can present itself on different areas of the body. In babies, it is commonly seen on, and inside, of their mouth. It may also appear in the digestive track. Thrush can come from an illness, medication use or even from stress. In many women, this type of yeast can become a vaginal yeast infection.

Go to a doctor to diagnose thrush. Doctors diagnose thrush by looking at the patches or examining a sample of the patch underneath a microscope. If the case is mild, he maybe able to remove the yeast (if in the mouth) with a cotton swab. If this does not work, he may prescribe an antibiotic. If a mother is breastfeeding, he may prescribe an antibiotic for both the baby and mother.

Follow good personal hygiene. This includes good hand washing and disposal of sanitary materals properly. Thrush is contagious so, if you come in direct contact with an infected area, proper cleansing is necessary to prevent spreading it. It can be spread by your baby, who has thrush in her mouth, when you kiss.

Use the medicines that are prescribed. It is very important to follow the instructions that the doctor gives you. If the medicine requires you to take it for a certain amount of days, it is pertinent that you take it the entire time. You may feel better, or see that your baby's mouth looks better, but without finishing the medicine, it can cause a relapse.

Go to doctor at first signs of thrush. If you know how thrush looks, it is still important to go to the doctor. If you have left over medicine from the last time that you or your baby had thrush, medical consent should be received before taking the left over medicine. Depending on the severity of it, the doctor may not prescribe any medicine to you.

Sanitize bottles. If your baby has thrush, sanitize all bottles and eating utensils that she uses. Boil bottle nipples in hot water on top of the stove. You may also boil all pacifiers used. This can help reduce the risk of spreading or re-inffecting.
