Laminate flooring is a wonderful alternative to traditional hardwood flooring. Not only is it less expensive, it is very durable and easy to clean. You can easily fit laminate flooring into any room in your home without having to hire additional help.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laminate flooring
  • Underlayment material
  • Saber saw
  • Flooring glue
  • Wood block
  • Flooring molding
  • Wood nails
  • Wood putty
  1. Step 1

Measure the perimeter of the room you want to cover. Knowing the dimensions will ensure that you order the proper amount of flooring. You can order laminate flooring online or from most home-improvement stores. You can choose from a variety of shades and widths.

  2. Step 2

Purchase underlayment materials from the home-improvement store. This material is needed to create a barrier between the concrete floor and the laminate flooring. It will also make walking on the floor more comfortable. Underlayment can be purchased in sheets and is easy to lay out on a bare floor.

  3. Step 3

Roll out sheets of underlayment and wait an hour or two for the material to expand. Once you have the underlayment in place, you can proceed to fit your laminate flooring. Start at the farthest end of the room and lay the first two or three pieces. You may need to trim end pieces to fit the dimensions of the room. Use a saber saw to easily trim your laminate floor pieces.

  4. Step 4

Lay out enough laminate pieces to cover the room. Once you're satisfied with how they look, use glue that's specifically designed for flooring to fit each piece together permanently. Place glue around the edges of each piece and lock them into place. Instead of using a hammer to attach the pieces, use a wooden block and tap the pieces into place.

  5. Step 5

Finish three rows and stop to let the glue dry. Continue to glue the rest of the floor in place. Use floor molding to complete the installation. You can have floor molding cut to suit at the home-improvement store, or you can cut it yourself using a small saw. Use small wood nails to attach the floor molding to the walls. Cover the nails with wood putty.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take as much time as you need when fitting your new flooring. Don't glue pieces together until you achieve the pattern you want.
  • Using a hammer to tap laminate flooring into place can damage the floors.
