      Go through a number of application stages, beginning with submission of an application form and documented evidence of education and work history. You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen and submit proof with your application.

      Pass a Criminal History Check and undergo a Clinical Psychometric Assessment.

      Have a minimum 1 year C class manual driver’s license; Australian resident status; current Senior First Aid Certificate; successful completion of Year 12 or Year 12 equivalent; and 2 years work history. In the final stages of the recruitment process, an applicant must provide evidence of the following before being appointed as a recruit firefighter: Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate, Manual Medium Rigid Vehicle (MRV) licence, and final medical assessment.

      Participate in four separate assessments after your application is accepted: the aptitude, characteristics, fitness and physical assessments. All of these are paid for by the applicant and can be done in no particular order and at the applicant's own pace. If you do not pass, you may retake tests after 6 months to a year, depending on the test.

      Know that the committee will consider all applicants based on these criteria: demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team; ability and willingness to learn new skills and solve problems; ability to communicate with a variety of audiences; mental and physical ability to perform operational activities effectively; ability to perform all duties and operate equipment in a safe and effective manner; integrity and an ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and processes. If you are selected, you will be interviewed in the region where the vacancy exists. If you successfully complete the interview, you can be a new recruit.
