How to Become a Judge in Maryland
To become a judge in any state you must possess certain characteristics as well as certain educational requirements. Election judges must present a safe environment for fellow citizens to cast their vote. A judge is reliable, follows procedures exactly as required, possesses good judgment and present themselves as neatly as possible.

Register as a Democrat or Republican at your local city DMV.

Enroll in your local community college and brush up on your grammar. Election judges must be able to read, write, and speak perfect English.

Resist the urge to become a campaign manager for a candidate, be a candidate, or a treasurer for a candidate. If you are, you can't be an election judge.

Enroll in a mandatory training course in order to become an election judge.

Call your local county and provide written notice that you meet all qualifications to fill an the election judge position.

Tips & Warnings
If you are not able to work long hours, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., then this job is not for you.
If you want to participate in a candidate’s campaign, then this position is not for you.
Harford County election judges can earn over $130 a day served.
In Harford County, the mandatory training class will not be paid for by the county if you do not serve on election day.
