The PDF file format has now become the standard for many of today's leading industries. From graphic design professionals to authors and executives, Adobe Acrobat has truly become as important a tool as Microsoft Office or other leading programs in today's business world. Toolbars are easy to use in Acrobat, and depend on what you will be using the program for. For the following tutorial, you will need the full version of Acrobat (Professional), not Acrobat Reader, though some of these functions may work there as well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Open any PDF file in Adobe Acrobat.
Step2
Go to View>Toolbars>Reset Toolbars. This will open the standard toolbars associated with the program which are:Basic: Hand tool, select tool, and snapshot toolFile: open, create PDF from web page, save, print, organizer, attach file, email, searchHelp: Access Help files from the toolbar and How-To boxRotate View: Allows you to rotate the way you see the pages without actually rotating the pages in the fileSearch the Internet: Plug-In that allows you to access your favorite search engine with a buttonTasks: Create a PDF, comment and markup, send for review, secure, sign, and formsZoom: zoom in and out of the page
Step3
Click on the Help button. A drop-down list will appear, showing the most common tasks. This will give you a general understanding of how Acrobat works. The great thing about this help menu is that it appears beside your file, allowing you to read the help and perform the tasks at the same time.
Step4
If you are reviewing documents in a business atmosphere, the most common toolbar you will use is the comment and markup tool. When clicking on this button, you will be shown all your options and also can open the commenting toolbar. You can do this with the other buttons as well.
Step5
Once you know which toolbars you need, feel free to change your palette around by going to View>Toolbars and selecting which toolbars you want to use. If you want this setup to be the same every time you open Acrobat, do this with no file open.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also access toolbars by going to Tools, and choosing the tool you want to use. At the bottom you are given an option to show or hide the associated toolbar.
