How to Remove Music From an iPod

You may be tired of listening to a particular artist, or perhaps you want to remove a holiday playlist from your iPod after the season. Maybe you just want to free up space. Use iTunes on the computer to alter your sync settings and remove unwanted songs from your music player.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod
  • Connection Cable
  • Computer
  • Launch iTunes on your computer. Connect the iPod to the computer using the USB connection cable that came with the music player.

  • Click on the name of the iPod under the Devices heading in the left navigation panel of iTunes.

  • Click the "Music" tab at the top of the main iTunes screen.

  • Place a check mark next to "Sync Music." Do not select "Sync entire music library." Instead, place a check mark next to "Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres."

  • Remove the check mark next to any artist, song or album in the list you no longer want on your iPod. Only songs with check marks transfer to your iPod. Those without check marks are removed from the portable device.

  • Click "Apply" at the bottom of the screen to transfer the music to the iPod and remove songs you no longer want on the device.

  • After the transfer is complete, disconnect the iPod from the computer.
