In a few simple steps, you will learn how to give a hot or cold stone massage to your loved one.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stones (basalt or a stone massage kit)
  1. Step 1

Decide what type of stones you wish to use. Typically, basalt stones are used in this type of therapy. However, you may be able to find stone massage kits at a local herb, department or online stores. This kit will include everything you may need to begin.

  2. Step 2

Warm the rocks. This is usually done by placing all of the rocks into hot water for about five minutes. The temperature depends on your partner’s threshold. However, this is usually between 120 degrees to 150 degrees.

  3. Step 3

Choose which method you and your partner wants to do. You may decide to lay a sheet on the furniture your partner will be laying on. The warm rocks can be placed underneath the sheet. A towel is placed on your partners back with the warm rocks on top. You may also choose not to use a towel or sheet as well. This depends on you and your partner's discussion.

  4. Step 4

Have your partner lay down on their stomach. The placement of the rocks should be as follows. A warm rock should be placed in each palm of their hand. On the bottom of their feet near their toes should be two more warm rocks, one on each foot. Their back should be lined with about five or six warm rocks on their spine. This is to help guide the energy through their body.

  5. Step 5

Take two warm rocks, one in each hand to begin the massage. Discuss with your partner before hand the type of pressure they desire. Some people can only take a tiny bit of pressure while others enjoy deep pressure. Rub the rocks over every muscle on the persons back. Pay close attention to the kind of pressure that was discussed.

  6. Step 6

Continue to give your partner a stone massage for about an hour. This will relieve tension, stress and muscle aches and soreness.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before putting the warm rocks on your partner, be sure that they are not overly hot. This could injury your loved one very badly.
  • Use the same steps for a cold massage as well. Some people may respond better to a cold stone massage. This is especially true if the person's muscles are inflamed or swollen.
  • Do not leave the rocks in the hot water for more than 10 minutes at the most. Rocks tend to heat up fairly quickly and you do not want to scald you or your loved one.
