So you have had the blues lately, been down in the dumps. You can't help but wonder "Will I ever be happy again?" You don't need to be prescribed medicine or referred to a therapist to feel better. Most people in the United States believe they are suffering from depression when it is really just the blues. Throw the pills away, and try a sober approach at life. No matter what the reason for you being unhappy is these tips will help you move on and at least try to be happy.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • Persistence
  • Good Friends & Family
  • Postive Attitude
  1. Step 1

Do what YOU want. Yes, it is selfish, but this is about making you happy not someone else. Stick with your gut. If you're not in the mood to see the movie all your friends want to see, - don't go. Doing something you don't want to do will only make your mood worse not better.

  2. Step 2

Find a new hobby. Believe it or not, trying something new and leaving your past in the past isn't always a bad thing. Try at least three new activities that you have always wanted to try but never actually did. Pick your favorite one and stick to it!

  3. Step 3

Get rid of the bad people. Everyone always has people in their life who bring them down. It's not always easy to completely nix someone out of your life, but if their gossip or lies are making you more upset at least limit the time you spend with them. You don't have time for a "negative Nancy" or a "Grumpy Gus" in your life. You're spending time on that new hobby, remember?

  4. Step 4

Treat Yourself. Come on, you're in a rough spot in life right now so it's okay to spend some extra money on yourself. Buy an ice cream or go to the mall. Retail therapy always helps, and why not have an extra cute new pair of shoes for the next time you feel like going out.

  5. Step 5

Meet new people. You have to now that you just parted ways with all the friends you use to have, just kidding. Meeting new people, however, brings excitement and something to long for. They will make you forget what is keeping you down.

  6. Step 6

Focus on the good. At the end of each day write down the things you are grateful for. It might something as simple as getting out of work early or finding a dollar bill on the ground; but think of the things that will make you say "Well, today wasn't so bad after all."

Tips & Warnings
  • Take your time. Rome wasn't built in a day, so remember that good things take time.
