Dollar Store Fortunes
Make a List of Local Dollar Stores and go to each store to take a mental inventory of the stock that they carry. Bring a pen and paper if you want to write some ideas down. Different chains of dollar stores carry different merchandise so keep an eye out for more unusual items.
Step2
Go home and search the internet on auction sites, such as eBay to see if there is a potential market to sell your item.
Step3
Calculate what your costs would be to sell the item, including shipping, tax and listing fees. If you can make a reasonable profit - you may want to consider selling this item online.
Step4
Select your strategy. When selling online you will have to make the decision to sell at a low profit margin to attract greater volume - or- to sell your item at a higher profit and lower volume.
Step5
Once you have a strategy and product list in mind, START SELLING! Register on an online site if you don't have an account already, they are free to set-up, and begin listing your items.
Tips & Warnings
Dollar stores around the country don't carry all of the same things which increases value to people who cant pick that item up at the dollar store.
If you decide not to hold items in inventory and will purchase your products once they have sold- be vary that it is possible for the dollar store to be out of stock when your item sells. If you have a large number of stores in your area that carry such an item the risk is lower, but still something that you should be aware of - Murphy's Law!
